Guide to: Mother's Day

Thursday, April 30, 2015

With Mother's Day being only 10 days away, I thought now would be the perfect time to share with you all my guide to Mother's Day! Whether you're looking for something witty like a sassy dish towel set, or something memorable like framing your favorite pic of you and your mom, I've got you covered! If you want to give your mom the gift of de-stressing, then the pattern coloring book is the perfect distraction (plus how fun would it be to frame some of the prints once they've been colored in?). Hopefully my quick little list has given you some inspiration!

What are you planning on getting your mom this Mother's Day?

Top: Lilly x Target / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Sperry / Sunnies: Urban Outfitters

This post is long overdue seeing as the Lilly x Target line came out over a week ago, but here it finally is! This is the first of two looks, and I am so happy to be able to share it with you all! Now I have to be honest with you - I originally didn't want this shirt. But when you're running into the store and combing the racks for items in your size, you will basically take what you can get. After trying on this shirt I fell in love and I am so glad that I was able to scoop it up. (To make this shirt better, me and my Mellie will be twinning with it- we of course both bought it. #roomieprobs). While the deep v is a bit risque for me, I love the print and style of this shirt and I can see myself wearing it a ton throughout the summer! This top would also be great with a pair of white skinnies and some wedges!

How else would you style the Nosey Posey tank?

P.S. how fun are these braids? I'm absolutely obsessed!

Monday Musings

Monday, April 27, 2015

Oh my gosh guys! This is my last Monday post coming from the dorm room of yours truly! Where in the heck did my freshman year of college go? (Seriously, someone please tell me because I have no idea...) This Monday is super bittersweet for me because the best year of my life is coming to an end, but I know equally bright horizons are on their way! Let's dive into it today!

Empty room / Guys, my dorm room is empty. And when I say empty, I mean like empty empty. My wall decorations are all off the walls, my curtain in place of a closet door is down, and the only pops of color are coming from my bedspread. This is seriously depressing.

Hummingbirds / I have to place blame on my friend Ang for this one because she has me utterly obsessed with the song Hummingbird Heartbeat by Katy Perry. Seriously this song is SO good and I have been listening to it while packing and moving all weekend. It's honestly the best.

Crafts / Even though I'm sad to be going home and seeing my freshman year come to a close, I'm so excited to devote a ton of time to crafting. I seriously cannot get to a craft store soon enough! There are so many things I want to try, starting with this post by yepitsprep! How cute are these tassels? Don't worry, I'll be sure to share my final products with all of you!

Literature / I would be lying if I said I wasn't a total book worm. I love to read, and the end of the semester means more time for books! You can definitely spot me at the library tomorrow picking up some new reads. Any recs of books you think I should read?

Lucky day / Okay so I am actually obsessed with Shelby Revis. If you don't know who she is, she is the adorable ball of sunshine behind the Lucky Day blog. If you're a Disney fanatic like me, you will absolutely die for her Disney tab, where she features outfits and packing tips all targeting the happiest place on Earth. Oh, and be sure to check out her sister Bailey's etsy shop for the cutest park ears you could ever possibly think of. I know I'll definitely be picking up a pair to sport on my next trip!

May 8th / Counting down the days to the 8th is honestly torture. If you're in a long distance relationship, you understand my pains right now. Why does going to two different colleges always equal different breaks and start/end times?

Songs I've Been Loving

Thursday, April 23, 2015

After seeing bloggers I admire frequently do posts like this, I thought I would hop on the bandwagon. Above are 10 songs I've been loving all through April, if not longer. Give them a listen and tell me what you think!

What songs have you been obsessed with?

Class Act

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Now that the weather is warming up, it's time to ditch the heavy parkas. My class style is pretty laid back and casual, but still somewhat put together. In the manner of trying something new, I have set up a different type of blog post for you to see (and shop!) an outfit I would typically wear to class!

I love how easy this look is, and I've seen tons of variations of it around campus and in the shopping districts. I think that its simple and not too structured, but still gives the appearance that you tried for the day. I'm currently dying over field jackets (and with this one priced at under $50 how can you not?). Another thing I'm thrilled about is Sperry weather. Living in the Mitten, Sperry season is short lived and very near and dear to me. Anytime I can break out the topsiders, you bet your bottom dollar I will!

What's a typical spring look for you?

Fav Five // Lilly New Arrivals

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

One // Two // Three // Four // Five

Maybe it's no coincidence that after the insanity of the Lilly x Target launch that Lilly has released it's new arrivals. Perhaps a clever marketing ploy for Lilly lovers who are having withdrawals after not scoring any of items from the much anticipated line? I digress. All conspiracies aside, I am loving the new arrivals and I couldn't help but share my fav five with you!

What were your favs from the latest release?

Monday Musings

Monday, April 20, 2015

I'm going to be keeping this Monday Musings post short and sweet for a variety of reasons. I'm sure this isn't that much of a disappointment to all of you though! Let's just get into it...

Finals week / This week starts my finals week! Exams start on Wednesday and carry on until next week Tuesday. I know, super bizarre. Are your finals set up in similar way, or are yours just the traditional week long ordeal? I'm curious to know how other universities schedule finals week!

Lilly x Target / We already all know how much of a disappointment the whole launch was. I don't really feel like I need to go too in depth on it since I already created an entire post about my experience (plus, everyone and their third cousin twice removed is talking about it!). If you want to read about my experience shopping the line, click here!

Packing / It's finally the moment I've been dreading since I moved onto campus - packing up my dorm room. You don't completely know how much stuff you have crammed into your teeny dorm room until it's time to pack it all up. I'll be making my third trip home this weekend to drop some more stuff off, and that's still not even all of it!

@2k21seniors / If you haven't seen this twitter account... you're missing out big time. I don't know what is more funny about this account: the fact that these things actually do happen (I've witnessed them before) or that I most likely had these thoughts as a 6th grader before.

Mellie's birthday / Friday was Mellie's birthday, and it was such a blast. I had the room decorated all cute, surprised her with gifts, and then we went out and paint partied it up. Honestly, why can't every day be Mellie's birthday?

Club Kresge / Where I plan on spending my week... For basically everyone reading my blog/who doesn't know what it means, Club Kresge is the name we lovingly call our library here on campus.

Short, sweet, and to the point! That's all for this post To everyone going through finals week right now- good luck!

My Lilly x Target Experience

Sunday, April 19, 2015

{via}

If you were anything like me today, you woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed just waiting to get your Lilly x Target items. I hope your endeavors were successful, but the unfortunate truth is that not everyone scored big today (myself included). While I did happen to purchase a thing or two, nothing was on my particular dream list. But don't worry, I'll be sure to post the items in outfit posts soon!

Here's a little rundown of how my night slash morning went while waiting for the line:

11:00 PM // decided I was much too tired to stay up to wait for the online merchandise to launch (plus I'm a poor college student so buying things with plastic usually leads to trouble)

11:05 PM // made up my mind that whatever I get in stores is meant to be & that the hassle of sites crashing is way too much stress for me to bare during finals week

11:10 PM // headed to bed - but not before sending up a lil prayer to the Lilly goddesses hoping for lucky shopping

6:50 AM // alarm went off because I just had to get to the store an hour before it opened

7:15 AM // arrived at our suburban out of the way Target only to find that there was already a line of 30 + outside (this is small compared to other stores - I know)

7:16AM  // got in line & tried not to be irritated by the fact that all of the people before me were mothers (what can I say, mother's are vicious when shopping for their daughters. *lowkey was just jealous that I didn't have my mom there to do the same for me*)

7:45 AM // dancing in line because 15 mins until the store opened

8:00 AM // doors opened - it was worse than any Black Friday I've ever experienced

8:01 AM // customers started sprinting to the clothing sections, so naturally me and my roommate did too

8:02 AM // snagged a top off the rack after grabbing the wrong size - 3x

8:05 AM // my "dress" was left in only a size 16 *cries*

8:10 AM // roomie and I run around rest of the store to find the other displays. spolier: they've already been ransacked

8:15 AM // we hover by the dressing room waiting for people's rejects

8:17 AM // decided I should probably try on my shirt, so I make Mellie stand guard for me and scope out the returns rack

8: 22 AM // some girl leaves with a plethora of dresses and decides she does not want one

8:22 AM (5 seconds have passed) // I try to approach the girl about getting her dress, but she snubs me and ignores me

8:24 AM // girl calls out "girl with polo hat" in attempts to find me - she's holding the rejected dress!

8:25 AM // I realize that the dress is actually in my size range

8:28 AM // I try on the dress - it zips which is a plus

8: 30 AM // our new game plan is to hover some more

8:40 AM // Mellie informs me of the ebay drama that is already ensuing #justbuyreallilly

8: 45 AM // we volunteer to offer to watch a lady's cart as she tries on dresses in the hopes that she'll give us her rejects

8:47 AM // we watch the lady trade her rejects with someone else in the fitting room - how rude

8: 50 AM // we check out feeling half victorious but mostly defeated

9:00 AM // we head back to campus & are now so hungry we could eat our Target bags, but sadly breakfast doesn't start until 10

I hope this was a unique and somewhat comical way for me to share my target experience with all of you! I would love to know what you got if you were able to score some items. If you weren't- tell me about your experience! We can wallow in sadness together!

Despite the collection's insanities, remember: Lilly Pulitzer isn't a $40 shift dress offered at a chain superstore - it's a state of mind, outlook, and bright personality!

Active Wear Favorites

Friday, April 17, 2015

{via}

With spring here and the temperatures heating up, I have been all about the active wear! Maybe it's just me being lazy and realizing that running tights are way more comfortable than jeans, but I love dressing in my active wear for class and heading to the gym right after! Here are my favorites right now!

These are just a few examples of the styles/clothes I like to wear to the gym or on my runs!

Where do you like to get your workout gear from?

Simple Acai Bowl

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

{via}

As I was scrolling through Pinterest, I came across this recipe and I just knew that I had to share it with all of you! Smoothie bowls are one of my absolute favorites during the summer and I love how easy they are to blend up!

What drew me to this particular recipe was the fact that it is an acai bowl! Acai are a super fruit that I fell in love with while working at my summer job, and they are perfect for smoothie bowls because they are both sweet and tart- clearly the best of both worlds! I especially like this recipe because it is super simple. I had honestly never thought to use frozen acai juice as the basis of my smoothies, as we had always had the smoothie packs at work! I am itching for school to be out for summer now because this bowl looks deliciously perfect for after my morning runs!

Have you ever tried making an acai bowl?

Monday Musings

Midnight breakfast / Midnight breakfast was last Wednesday and it was so great. There were snow cones, photo booths, and pancakes with bacon. Talk about a dream come true, am I right? I'm so excited about next year all ready and it's basically 365 days away still. Plus, how great was this photo from that night? Absolutely priceless.

Formal / Formal was last weekend and it was honestly so much fun. It was my first formal with my sorority, and I have honestly been looking forward to it all year. Having Jonathan with me at formal and my Grandbig, Big, and Little all there was so much fun! I can't wait till next year- the only downside will be seeing my Big in the senior circle. $20 to whoever can guess how many times I cry next year when she's getting ready to leave.

 Astrological / My friend Ang (here's your shoutout Ang) is constantly reading horoscopes and comparing our signs to different things in the universe. I honestly wish I had a dollar for every time she talks about the signs. If that were the case, I would be a millionaire.

Space Jam/ Nobody understands how hype I am to watch Space Jam tonight with my Ham Fam. It's one of the last times we will all be together, and thinking about my freshman year coming to a close makes me sad. *inserts cries here*

Senior sendoff / I cried like a baby, my grand big left my family to go alum, and twinny's speech made me laugh to no end. Senior sendoff was an experience that I wish I never had to go through again, but unfortunately I lose someone from my fam every year until it's my turn to graduate. Hashtag change sucks.

Philanthropy / This week is a big fundraising week for my sorority. All week we are leading up to our biggest philanthropy event of the year, and I am so excited to be volunteering for tabling to promote awareness about our event, our philanthropy, and maybe to get pied in the face a time or two. I cannot wait to see how the event turns out on Saturday, and I know it's going to go so smoothly because our philanthropy chair has been working so hard towards this event all year!

That's about it for my Monday. If my somewhat scattered and very unplanned post didn't bring a smile to you, maybe this link will! For as much as Micheal Cera creeps me out, this made me laugh way more that it should have

How was your Monday?

Black + Floral

Thursday, April 9, 2015

I'm not sure if kimonos are seasonly acceptable yet, much less still in style, but after having this hanging in my closet for the past year I was dying to break it out on the sunniest day this week. These pictures were taken only a couple of days ago (shoutout to Annmarie for helping me out), but the weather has been anything but sunny since *cries*. I love the coziness of the overcast skies, but it's been making me tired at a time when I need to be buckling down before finals. This outfit was so nice for the breezy sunny day, and I'm hoping for the sun to come back out so I can wear it again soon! (Yes, I am an outfit repeater.)

What do you think of kimonos?

Formal Notice

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

{via}

With formal and prom season here, I thought it was the perfect time to dedicate a post to hair, and hair alone. For my prom last year, my hairstyle was a big deal. I'm all about doing my own hair (masochistic, I know...), so I have spent hours in the past searching for that one perfect hair style.

Pinterest and YouTube are always the best places to go, but sometimes searching through all the pictures and videos can seem tedious. Luckily for all of you, I've already done the hard work! Whether you want an up do, luscious curls, or a half-up half-down, I've got a style you're sure to love!

Up-do's

Half-up / half-down
Front row braids (add some curls/loose waves and you're golden!)

Down

Clearly I am obsessed with anything braided or vintage, but I hope this gives you some inspo for the formal season ahead of us!

What are your favorites from this post?

Spring Nails

Tuesday, April 7, 2015

Spring has finally sprung and I am so excited to be able to break out the pastel nail polishes. Essie is so perfect for the season and their selection of nail polishes are amazing. I myself have Fiji on my nails and it's been getting a lot of attention. There's nothing quite like a fresh manicure to brighten your week and I always feel so polished when my nails are done. All of the colors above are perfect for the transition into spring and I can't wait to switch my nails out throughout the season.

What are your favorite nail polishes for spring?

Monday Musings

Monday, April 6, 2015

Spring has graced us this Monday and I am feeling so sunny and bright! This has been such a great day so far and I can't wait to dive into this post!

Backstreet's Back | Over the last weekend my friends and I participated in a talent show. While everyone else was pouring their hearts out into their talent, we brought back the Backstreet Boys. We choreographed a dance to Everybody and dressed in complete 90s wear. (Fun fact: the picture at the top of this post is from dress rehearsal!)

Easter | While Easter for my family usually just means spending time with immediate family, I really enjoyed the time spent at home. Besides hanging out with my family, I also got a ton of inspiration for some upcoming posts that I am excited to share with you all! Make sure you're on the lookout for some future spring inspired posts coming up!

Opening Day | This is by far my favorite part of today. For all you Tigers fans out there, this day is a national holiday for you too. Although I wasn't able to watch the game and cheer on the Tigers, I kept tabs on the game while flitting from class to class!

Greek Week / Greek Week starts this week and I cannot wait to see how my team does! The dance looks great and tonight is the chalk off/ stroll off! Here's to hoping we win again this year! Good luck to everyone else participating in Greek Weeks this week!

Tabling / Today I got the opportunity to table for a great cause on my campus. As April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, I got the chance to pass out ribbons to raise awareness. Being reminded of the statistics of sexual assault was shocking, and informing people that it is still a relevant problem gave me hope that in the future those statistics will someday drop.

Meeting | My last sorority Sunday is coming up for the year and I don't even know what to think. It's so crazy to think that for the past year I have been meeting with my sisters and after this Sunday that will be over until the fall. While I'm going to like the break so that I can study, it's just going to be weird I think...

How has your Monday been?

Documentaries You Need to Watch

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

As of recently (and by that I mean Monday...), I have gotten really into watching documentaries. It all started when my friend suggested an interesting topic (you'll see it below!) and before I knew it I was sitting in the lounge for 4 hours watching documentaries. Typically, people are turned off by documentaries, but I believe it all comes down to content. Here are 4 documentaries streaming on Netflix now that you need to watch.

{via}

I Escaped a Cult | For me, cults are personally so fascinating. This was the documentary that started it all for me and my friends, and it sparked the most interesting debate I've had in a long time. While this is the most controversial subject matter I'll be discussing in this post, it definitely lead to a great discussion on why people join cults and what it's like having to be born into one. I highly recommend it if you're interested in something similar. If you want to know of some more controversial documentaries to watch, send me an e-mail and I'll send some great recommendations your way.

{via}

The Queen of Versailles | If cults aren't your thing, maybe the disgustingly rich is. This documentary follows around the Siegel family and their empire created from time shares. While the focal point in the very beginning is the construction of their 90,000 square foot estate (modeled after the Palace of Versailles), it follows the family's life changes after the stock crash of 2008. This documentary made me feel extremely frustrated at times, but overall I felt it was worth the watch, especially just to hear some of the things come out of the Siegel's mouths.

{via}

Of Two Minds | This one was my personal favorite, but maybe I'm just partial because I feel like psychology is my niche. Following the experiences of various people battling with bipolar disorder, this documentary sheds light on an issue that has been shied away from in modern society. I feel this film excellently depicts the highs and lows of the disorder and the struggles that those suffering from it face on a daily basis. If you're interested in psychopathology like I am, then I am sure this documentary is for you.

{via}

Please Subscribe | I came across this documentary while bed ridden over the weekend and I have to admit that first I was skeptical. Having only been familiar with one relatively famous YouTuber, I didn't think that this film would have the potential to hold my attention. I was wrong. I loved how this documentary shed a little bit of light on the business aspect of YouTube and the lives of those who make a career out of it. While we see their lives online, we don't typically get a peek into it from an angle other than that of the camera. 10/10 would recommend.

What Netflix documentaries have you seen recently?
